Atlanta Suburban Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Host Women’s Public Service Leadership Forum

The Atlanta Suburban Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority will host a panel discussion for women considering leadership in public service and political office in metro Atlanta. The discussion, “Sprinting Into Leadership” will be held on Saturday, November 13 at 9:30 a.m. on the campus of Clark Atlanta University, 223 James Brawley Drive SW in Room 102 of the Carl and Mary Ware Academic Building.

During this political season, women have been among the national and local candidates for public office. Women in historic numbers have chosen to run for public office in the 2010 election cycle with a record 298 women who ran for Congress - including 223 non-incumbents. In this past election, 153 women appeared on ballots nationwide in the general election for U.S. congressional races. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority is hosting a forum for the public and women who are considering, “Sprinting into Leadership” at the local level. Panelists will share their stories and answer questions about lessons learned as they made the decision to become public officials.

Atlanta Suburban Alumnae Chapter is one of the nine Delta Sigma Theta Sorority alumnae chapters in metro Atlanta. The Chapter received national recognition this year at the National Convention in New Orleans for their advocacy of political awareness and addressing issues in the Atlanta community that affect public policy, economic viability and social justice.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority annually invites its members to Delta Days in the Nation’s Capital to increase their members’ involvement in national public policy and engagement with public officials who make that policy. The organization is also known for its longtime commitment to voting rights and voter registration.
