Editor's and Communication Professionals today are interested in building up their readership online. Bloggers dive in when a newspaper, for example writes a popular topic on their front page. Say anything about the upcoming election and blogger's are all over the topic on the comment page. But what writers have to consider now is the debate over understanding your audience by demographics.

Journalist and writers are having a time writing for specific audiences and understanding them by demographics. Anything said about an upcoming election will stir the curiosity of bloggers everywhere. Blogger's are using the comment pages to express their opinions and concerns. Editors of newspapers and magazines are utilizing blog space to increase and build readership levels. Before a writer dives into any story or subject, they should know their audience and target demographic inside and outside.

Marketing Analyst will deem certain demographics by age groups and determine who might respond to an effective advertising campaign by birth date. There are several generations to take note of like: The Silent Generation that was born during the 1920's to 1945, and right after that period is the Baby Boomers born 1946 to 1964. The other segments of American culture were born 1965 to 1980 named Gen-X. Marketing firms see the Gen-Z population as the market to advertise to Millennium kids that are born between 1994 to 2004. Before Journalist put pen to paper they must know who will respond to their media campaigns and if they'll be appropriate for that audience.

The website Foursquare would be a logical choice for Generation-X target markets. But, never assume that this is the only communication channel preferred by that popular age group. There are well-written White Papers by various companies that do research and study this online phenomenon. Analyst measure 'calls-to-action' of marketing campaigns and are valuable marketing tools when clarifying who will be receptive to a product for service. When writing an effective direct mail campaign it should align with that demographic to facilitate success.

For example, an online campaign for a new drug that will help relieve the pain of arthritis could be placed on a banner ad next to a drug store advertisement, with a call-to-action button that would cause the interested party to fill out a contact form on a landing page to receive more information.

Moreover, The Silent Generation or Baby Boomers might become more engaged if they saw those banner ads due to the age demographic. Conversely, marketing professionals should be prepared to recalibrate their campaign whenever necessary. Rather than push a campaign ad to an audience like Gen-Z, that is not responsive and that is not going to get you the ROI that you're seeking. It's also better to do research beforehand.
The key to any successful marketing campaign is respecting your audience regardless of generational gaps and industry. Study the resources about media planning, monitoring outcomes, read marketing analysis and integrate the services and administer public relation efforts and best practices. In order to engage your audience, journalist need to enhance the conversation and foster participation across generational lines.

If media professionals (use social media sources) like Facebook, Twitter, Dig, or StumbleUpon they have to consider the target audience first and foremost. For audiences whom they are targeting should garner awareness and buzz which should increase interest, revenues, sales and awareness. There is nothing more fulfilling than going on the Internet and receiving emails from your perfect target audience asking you for more information.
