7:15pm
Durban, South Africa
I am writing this entry while sitting in the Durban bus station. This has truly been an African Safari, last night and today. I enjoyed it all. We African culture people are a very passionate people. During this Safari, U have honed my listening skills. I like Nelson Mandela’s slogan “If you shine you must let other shine as well:. From this short day in Durban along the beach, this is truly a common bond among all beach combers. This world of Tropical Durban is little known, but it exist eminently. I must do all my sleeping tonight on the bus because tomorrow I shall want to photograph Orlando East - SOWETO and Johannesburg while there is sun. I shall return back to Johannesburg at 3:00am and must catch a taxi to the hote. This is what I like so much about these travel adventures. It hones my juggling skills and make my formula for the Humanities stronger. Well it is raining in Durban, so I hope I can sleep well on the bus. I hope no breakdown this time. Good Night and May God Bless.

DAY #5

Sunday
March 18, 2012
8:30 Johannesburg. South Africa
“Sanibona“….This is isiZulu for “Good Morning”.
I woke up late after the all day yesterday Safari. The sun is very bright and clear. I slept very well last night. Today I shall photograph much today. I am speaking with Emanuel. Emanuel is a young man who makes my breakfast, at the Bed & Breakfast Hotel.

11:30am Orlando East, SOWETO, Johannesburg, South Africa.
I am writing this entry while sitting at the Chaf Pozi, at the landmark SOWETO Towers. I took the Rea Vaya to Boomtown in Orlando East and just began walking. I walked first in a small urban village in Orlando East and just began walking on this beautiful fall sunny day in south Africa. As I was walking in Orlando East I passed many evangelistic churches and much African music is everywhere. I just continued to walk until I caught sight of the SOWETO Towers, then it was a strong heritage magnet which drew me near. I stayed off the main road and walked in the bush towards the towers. As I got closer I could see that they were bungee jumping from the towers. The SOWETO Towers have a history: The Orlando Power Station and Cooling Towers, as they were formally known were constructed in 1951. The Orlando Power Station was constructed in 1935. It was built to power the community across town and not the township of SOWETO. The Power Station was prominent during Apartheid in South Africa and for the usage of the white minority, but not the color (Black/Indian) majority.
I walked and photographed all throughout the towers. On this Sunday the streets are less crowded and very festive. I shall exhaust myself the entire day . I am now off towards more of Orlando East. I hope to get lost because, finding my way back is the most fun.

1:20pm Orlando East, SOWETO, Johannesburg, South Africa.
I am writing this entry while sitting high atop on of the highest hills in Orlando, as I peer down onto the communities of Orlando East & West. I am basking in the cool African sun. I can hear the sounds of the town in all directions. This is a time of meditating and visiting the ancestors. As I peer over and look at the Soweto Towers which I came from, I could not help but notice all the flora growing in the area. There are many, many morning glory flowers in the area. As I peer into the other direction, I can see the miines which my ancestors worked to make this a great African Nation. I can also see into Orlando West, which many nicknamed : Beverly Hills”. It is funny I walked miles and miles and I am not tired. It is so peaceful here atop this red clay hill in SOWETO. I can see the ants, butterflies, lizards, etc. ..The sun is very bright, but it is not hot as the southern hemisphere change from Summer into Fall. I took out my binoculars and really enjoyed the view from up here. I found a natural basin of water in a large rock and washed my hair, face and feet. High up here I kept hearing this chipping sound, as if a chisel against the clay rocks, but what I noticed was that it was the natural sound of a particular bird echoing against these clay rocks. A group of young boys have climbed the hill and are watching me wash in the natural basin. The water is very cool.

5:40pm Johannesburg, South Africa
I am writing this entry while back at the hotel. What a day in Orlando East, SOWETO. 5 hours walking those hills in SOWETO. SOWETO is a township that is village, urban and cosmopolitan, all in one. I could not help but notice how 2 story ornamented houses are next to rural houses and the compliment themselves well. It is a village. The royals and the people living in harmony. Since today is Sunday, I saw many families going and coming from church. I walked in an area where most people would fear, but my humanitarian spirits saw how a real village lives among a urban structure. While inside the rural village the people were very friendly and approached me as a brother. I answered “You are my people”. The ride back to downtown Johannesburg helped me hone my photography skills, from photographing from a moving object. I opened the bus windows and began photographing. I only wish I had discovered this earlier, but I must give myself credit, because the other day on the bus going to Durban, which was rainy, I photographed upon a moving object.
