Shorter College


Mission
The Mission of Shorter College is to provide quality higher education, enabling and encouraging a student commitment to active life-long learning, personal spiritual values, responsible citizenship, and community and societal leadership in a global context.

Purpose
Shorter College is committed to providing quality accelerated degree programs to working adult students. The curriculum, instruction, and administration of the programs are designed to interrelate theoretical and research knowledge with practical application. The concept of life-long learning are emphasized and taught throughout the curriculua.

Accreditation
Shorter College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate's, bachelor's, and master's degrees.

History
Established as an academic community in 1873, Shorter College is dedicated to the liberal arts, is responsive to the needs of the professional community, and is committed to the education of men and women. The main campus is located in Rome, Georgia and has campuses, in North Atlanta, Lawrenceville, and Riverdale, Georgia.

Convenient Schedules
Classes meet one session per week for four hours. Classes meet the same night for the duration of a particular curriculum. Students should anticipate investing approximately 15-20 hours outside the classroom each week in preparation for class, including the learning team meeting.

Learning Teams
Learning teams are comprised of three to five individuals and are required to meet weekly for four hours to prepare for the upcoming session and/or to focus on a particular team assignment or project which is incorporated into final grades.

Class Size
Enrollment is limited to career-minded, committed men and women with a minimum of two years full-time work experience. Cohort groups of between 16 and 25 students meet as a unit for the duration of a particular curriculum.

Faculty
Classes are taught by qualified faculty from the mero Atlanta area and the Rome campus. Faculty are expected to become familiar with adult learning strategies and to incorporate learning in the classroom with the application of theory to real-world experiences.

Registration
Registration is conducted prior to enrollment into any one of the accellerated curricula offered at Shorter College.

Full-Time
Students enrolled in the accelerated adult degreee programs are considered to be full-time and may be eligible for some form of financial aid.
