FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MetroPCS Announces 2005-2006 Community Scholars Program

Wireless service provider recognizes metro Atlanta area high school seniors’ community service and volunteer accomplishments; supports continued education

ATLANTA (November 22, 2005) – MetroPCS, Atlanta’s only wireless service provider offering unlimited, anytime local and nationwide long distance calls with no contract, announces the 2005-2006 MetroPCS Community Scholars Program. Now in its fourth year, the program provides college scholarships to high school seniors in metro Atlanta counties who have made a difference in their hometowns through community service. MetroPCS founded the Community Scholars Program to recognize teenagers’ community involvement and to encourage their continued dedication to volunteer activities.

MetroPCS will award $1,000 scholarships, totaling $12,000 to high school seniors who reside in metro Atlanta and who plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two- or four-year college or university. Last year, MetroPCS awarded $1,000 scholarships, totaling $12,000 to metro Atlanta area high school seniors.

“Each year, we are overwhelmed with the abundance of applications from so many deserving students. Because of the success of the Community Scholars Program, we continue to help young people go to college, as well as spread the message about the importance of volunteerism and community involvement,” said Michael Johnson, regional vice president of sales and distribution for MetroPCS. “As a local wireless service provider, MetroPCS relies on the support of our local communities for success. The Community Scholars Program is one way that we are giving back to the communities that support us.”

In evaluating applications, MetroPCS’ overarching criteria will be students who have demonstrated exceptional involvement in volunteerism and community service. The company will not consider financial need, but it will take into account the following criteria when selecting winners:

·        participation in school activities

·        academic record (Applicants must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a standard 4.0 grading scale to be considered.)

·        honors

·        work experience

·        statement of goals and aspirations

·        unusual personal or family circumstances

·        an outside appraisal

How to Apply

Students may pick up application packets from November 14, 2005 through December 19, 2005 from their high school counselors or at any MetroPCS store in the metro Atlanta area. Applicants must complete the application and mail it along with a current, complete official transcript of grades to MetroPCS postmarked no later than December 19, 2005. MetroPCS will notify finalists by February 1, 2006, and scholarship recipients will be notified by April 3, 2006.
