NEW YORK, April 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Blaylock & Partners, L.P., the
leading minority and woman-owned investment banking firm, today
announced that it has hired former Wasserstein Perella managing
director Jamie Barker to oversee a major expansion of the firm's
          equities group.
Mr. Barker is responsible for overseeing and growing Blaylock's
equity sales, trading and research functions. Blaylock's intends to
build an equities capability comparable in size, reputation and
competitive strength to its long established fixed income group.
As part of this initiative, Blaylock also has hired veteran media
          and entertainment analyst John Tinker.
"The current economic conditions on Wall Street provide a
          significant opportunity for a roll-up-the-sleeves, client-focused
boutique firm like ours to gain market share," said Ronald E.
Blaylock, chairman and CEO of the firm that bears his name. "Although
we have long been known primarily as a fixed-income operation, we plan
to significantly bolster our equity sales and trading along with our
research capabilities. We are in a major expansion mode."
Mr. Barker was formerly chief operating officer of Wasserstein
Perella's equities group, which achieved significant growth under his
leadership. Following Wasserstein's acquisition by Dresdner Kleinwort
Benson, he was responsible for global distribution of U.S. equities.
Previously, Mr. Barker, 45, was a managing director at Deutsche Bank,
where he ran the day-to-day activities of its equity sales and trading
operations and was a member of the bank's global operating committee.
"Blaylock is well positioned to expand to the next level," Mr.
Barker said. "There is a growing demand among institutional investors
for a research boutique offering original value-added research
          combined with focused client service."
Mr. Barker noted that Blaylock is well positioned to attract
outstanding candidates. "In my more than two decades on Wall Street,
rarely has there been such a readily available talent pool," he said.
Mr. Tinker, 45, a well-known media and entertainment analyst, most
recently managed Steamer Capital, a New York-based money management
firm. Earlier, Mr. Tinker co-founded the media and communications
division of Montgomery Securities, which was subsequently acquired by
Banc of America. He also worked as a media analyst at Furman Selz and
          Morgan Stanley.
"We are working aggressively to strengthen our existing team of
research analysts with like-minded, idea-driven professionals who
prefer the atmosphere of intellectual flexibility offered at a
boutique firm," Mr. Barker said. Blaylock's research will initially
          focus on four sectors: media and telecom; financial services; energy;
          and healthcare.
Mr. Barker, a Bronx native, holds a degree in finance from Iona
          College in New Rochelle, NY.
Mr. Tinker, who grew up in the UK, came to the United States in
1983. He holds a master's degree in politics, philosophy & economics
          from Oxford University.
