OVERCOMING PAIN: What It Is, Why It Is, and Successful Ways to Treat It provides an in-depth look at pain that includes: types of pain, causes, how to assess and treat pain and the various medications. Also covered are non-medication therapies and alternative treatments, disparities in treatment of pain, as it pertains to African-Americans and other minorities: how it is often under assessed and undertreated how pain medications may not be available in minority neighborhood pharmacies how hospice care for end of life pain care is underutilized in minorities causing many to needlessly suffer. The book includes a comprehensive list of resources, including pain specialists and clinics, support groups, organizations, web sites and more.
