In correlation to the currently running Slavery in New York exhibition at N-YHS, the Manhattan vocal group “Just Friends” will invoke the spirit of slavery through songs and narratives of the Underground Railroad. “Just Friends” is a unique gospel ensemble focusing on slave spirituals from the 17 th and 18 th centuries. They will perform and discuss the music inspired by stories of loss and determination in a time when freedom was only a dream. Learn about the lives of slaves through their interpretation of slave songs and discover the hidden messages.
