PART #3

The snow top mountains have returned, not like the Swiss Alps, as we fly westward of Rome, Italy to enter the Tyrrhenian Sea. The pasta is making me sleepy. I hope I can be awoke when we fly into Africa.

12:50pm
We are flying over the Tyrrhenian Sea. The water looks greenish blue, sort of aqua. I can see reminiscences of the city of Rome, Italy. As indicated by the sky navigator, we shall be over Palermo, Italy in a few minutes. We are traveling at 569 mph. I am due to arrive in Johannesburg at 10:00pm.

1:20pm
We are flying over Palermo headed towards the island of Malta in the Mediterranean Sea, where it meets the Ionian Sea. There is a bit of anxiety in me, as I can fell the presence of the ancestors welcoming another back home.

2:00pm
We are entering Africa from Libya, while flying over the Sahara Desert. The sky navigator indicates we will be traveling directly down the center of the African continent (Libya through Chad through Congo through Zambia through Zimbabwe through Botswana and finally South Africa). As we enter Africa, there is a very heavy thick mist in the air. So thick I cannot see the ground. Out to my extreme left is Egypt. The Sahara Desert is underneath us, but the mist is too thick to see. The temperature outside is -58f and I can see ice flakes on the window.

2:10pm
My first glimpse of Africa. It appeared that we we still in the Mediterranean, because I see the shore line of Libya, Northern Africa. It is very red and the Mediterranean on this side is very blue. The land is red, as to this being the Sahara Desert. It reminds me of the Georgia red clay. So beautiful and it seems to be getting redder as we journey onward. No water spots. The Sahara Desert is truly beautiful. This was worth not taking a nap after lunch. It is so vast. The redness of the Sahara Desert against the Mediterranean blue is truly a treasure for the eyes. The Sahara Desert seems to absorb everything. The clouds over the desert leaves large shadows as if you are looking at water. these are mirages from the sky. You can see the shadows on the small sand hills on the desert, but not mountains. I am beginning to feel the pull of my ancestors. It is getting clearer now and you can see the floor of the Sahara Desert. You can see the veins where there was once streams. As we journey further into the African continent, the Sahara Desert is becoming a dark red with clearly distinct hills. I am looking at a huge gourge which seemed to at once be a river. I am reminded of the Grand Canyon, as to the Sahara Desert and the Grand Canyon redness. There also appears to be dirt road ways on the Sahara, however I do not see any moving. The backdrop of the Mediterranean is gone and we are in the heart of the Sahara Desert. It is funny, the clouds shadows on the Sahara Desert plays little tricks on you. We are now passing over where the Libyan Desert and the Sahara Desert meets. Just to think over to the extreme right lies Egypt. As I stare out over the hemisphere, the redness of the Sahara is reflected up into the skyline. The same blue and red contrast of the Mediterranean and the Sahara is now the same in the clouds and the sky. It is amazing how the Sahara Desert’s redness reflects up to the clouds. Above the clouds is a reddish pink cloudy atmosphere.

2:40 pm
As we leave the Libyan Desert and part of the Sahara Desert you can see small forms of vegetation appearing in pockets on the desert floor. The sky redness appears to be giving way to the blueness of the sky. This is an indication of water is near. …Or is this to a Mirage!!! The deep redness is gone. Very soon we shall be entering the country of Chad, then crossing the country of the Congo and then the equator. Leaving the northern hemisphere and entering the southern hemisphere.
